Why Join AIESEC?

What is AIESEC?

AIESEC was founded after World War II when students like us realized that the world could no longer withstand anything like that. As a result, they established this organization to provide students with a cross-cultural experience that will allow them to mature into more open individuals.

The term AIESEC (pronounced eye-sek) stood for ‘Association Internationale des Étudiants en Sciences Économiques et Commerciales'. The acronym AIESEC is no longer used; instead, the organization's name is used. AIESEC members are referred to as "AIESECers."

The AIESECERs are passionate about world issues, leadership development, cultural understanding, and experiential learning. The organization spans 120+ countries and territories, and students and recent graduates manage every aspect of AIESEC's operations. AIESEC does not make distinctions based on national/social origin, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, or religion.

AIESEC strives to achieve 'Peace & Fulfilment of Human Kind's Potential' by allowing young people to improve their leadership skills and practical experiences in challenging environments. We believe that leadership is the essential solution and that anyone, anywhere, can develop it.

About AIESEC in Latvia

AIESEC Latvia is one of the members of the AIESEC international network. Our organization has been around since 1995. Through our membership program, we provide over 50 volunteer leadership opportunities each year and more than 60 exchange possibilities for students and recent graduates.

To ensure the success of our local and exchange volunteers, we organize at least four national conferences every year. Our stakeholders are students from Latvian universities, international interns, our national collaborating organizations, Latvian institutions and high schools, and AIESEC Alumni in Latvia.

AIESEC Latvia comprises a National Board of under 24-year-olds and three local chapters from various Latvian cities. Every year, a five-member executive board is elected, made up of 5 students and recent graduates and about 45 volunteers, leading each local chapter.

So, have you ever wondered what it's like to be a part of the largest student-run organization in the world? If you haven't already, you should give it a try. Here are five compelling reasons to join AIESEC.

Develop your Leadership

One of the main goals of AIESEC is to instill leadership qualities. You are exposed to a fast-paced atmosphere that emphasizes teamwork, freedom, adaptability, and corporate skills from an early age.

Make your impact on the world

As an AIESEC member, your actions have a direct impact on the people around you. From impacting your teammates to driving change in your communities, the opportunities to shape the world are endless and entirely up to you.

We believe in the Why, which is one of the best aspects of this organization. We know that by developing these leaders and providing these opportunities abroad, we can alter our perceptions of objects and the world.

If you like to travel and make a difference, globally, the exchange option is a great way to broaden your horizons. Exchange is the core product of AIESEC.

Being a member of AIESEC allows you to meet people from all over the world with diverse cultures and backgrounds. Your list of contacts will be far too long.

One of the most significant aspects of AIESEC is networking. You will have a vast network of professionals you worked with on events; you will have a network of friends from conferences and people you've met through AIESEC. As a result, you'll have many visiting cards and a hard time managing your contact list, which will drive you insane.

Gain professional experience

It won't be easy to write your CV! Typical CVs take no more than two minutes to write and prepare; however, yours will take at least an hour. You wouldn't be able to put all of your experience, abilities, and accomplishments on a two-page CV after joining AIESEC. It will be pretty challenging for you to include all of them on a single CV.

AIESEC gives you the chance to gain professional experience that is quite different from any other organization you might have an opportunity to join during your college career. AIESEC allows you to talk to businesses and business professionals firsthand.

You learn how to show yourself to the public and sell yourself. You will improve your public speaking and negotiating abilities. AIESEC provides you with the opportunity to develop and improve both your hard and soft abilities.

As an AIESEC member, you will learn by doing, obtaining transferrable practical skills in a start-up setting. You will find the hidden potential in yourself that you were previously unaware of.

Our members engage in the fields like sales, customer experience, marketing, finance, and human resource management.

Experience AIESEC Culture

You don't want to lose out on AIESEC conferences. From interactive sessions to mind-blowing socials like gossips, gestures, motions, punishments, shouts, and roll calls, conferences give wonderful experiences.

One of the most unbelievable things that AIESEC members do is roll calls. Every local committee presents its roll call at the outset of conferences. To give it a meaning, roll calls are dances that we all do at random moments, such as before a conference session or after a meeting. They are energizers and completely fun. The fascinating aspect of roll calls is how they bring everyone together.

After so many days of great chats, informative, functional sessions, and inspiring leadership sessions, you might be a little sad to leave it all behind. But don't be concerned! After every conference, everyone discovers little pieces of paper and writes the sweetest, and funniest remarks you'll ever read called sugar cubes. They're the notes that bring you solace when you've had a rough day or give you a boost when you're stuck on a fresh idea.

AIESECers also wear AIESEC t-shirts, bands, and hoodies. AIESEC provides a wide range of opportunities. It's up to you to seize such opportunities.
